GOLD COUNTRY STAMPEDE LACROSSE



The Gold Country Stampede lacrosse team came into Friday night's contest in second place in league action had shot at knotting with the Sierra Foothill Eagles who entered the game one ahead in the loss column. The game could have been classified as a physical contest with the Eagle finishing on top 9-7. SF completed the game with seven penalties to the Stampede's one including one that caused the goal keeper to be sidelined. The Eagles finished the season with an overall record of 9-3 while the Stampede will be back in action tomorrow at Nevada Union High School against the Eagles of Pleasant Grove looking to improve on their 8-5 record. The Stampede fell behind 2-1 at the end of one but took the lead 4-2 going into the half only to fall behind 6-4 by the end of the third and failed to closet the gap eventually falling 9-7. Mid-fielder Ben Thill  and attacker Canyon Drake played a solid game while Mason Picard scored two goals and Peter McDonald led the team with five in the loss.
        The Stampede who are coached by Donn Demostene, Chris Drake and Dave Dupuis will travel to San Francisco next weekend to compete in a Northern California Junior Lacrosse Association contest at Treasure Island.
