TIME OF CHANGE IN NEVADA COUNTY

Graduation is said to be a time of closure, but we all know, when one door closes, another opens.

Many parents will feel excited as well as saddened this June as they watch their child walk across a stage, where they will be presented with their traveling papers (diploma). This emotional moment is a time to recognize your graduate's achievements and dedication to their future, as well as recognizing your own achievements.

Regardless if your child is leaving Nevada County to go off to a college located in an exciting far away land, attending Nevada Union, Bear River High School or one of the many county middle schools, there is an open door awaiting each of us.

Each door in life presents an emotional challenge that comes with change, due to the unknown. The door that closed, can not be re-opened, but it can be remembered fondly. How each parent and graduate handles the changes and challenges that have been presented can only be determined by ones-self, over time.

Embrace the experience, as the only constant in life is change.

BEAR RIVER HIGH SCHOOL, ALL SPORT PHYSICAL NIGHT

If you, your son, or daughter plans on playing a high school sport in the 2012-13 school year, please read below.

In preparation for the 2012/13 sports seasons, Bear River High School will be holding their "All Sport Physical Night," at Bear River on Tuesday, May 29 at 6:30pm. The cost is $15 per physical. In past years Bear River has also offered an additional opportunity to get a sports physical in August, which they will not do this summer. This is the only Physical Night the high school will be providing.

All athletes who plan to participate at the high school level must pass a physical. If you fail to attend the event, you will be required to see your doctor, which could be more expensive.

The school will send out an "all-call" the week prior to May 29 as well as put the information on the school's website click hereHowever, parents as well as players are the best source of communication to the athletes who will need a physical to start practice within the next school year. BRHS is asking for help to spread the word.

The Gold Country Stampede lacrosse team came into Friday night's contest in second place in league action had shot at knotting with the Sierra Foothill Eagles who entered the game one ahead in the loss column. The game could have been classified as a physical contest with the Eagle finishing on top 9-7. SF completed the game with seven penalties to the Stampede's one including one that caused the goal keeper to be sidelined. The Eagles finished the season with an overall record of 9-3 while the Stampede will be back in action tomorrow at Nevada Union High School against the Eagles of Pleasant Grove looking to improve on their 8-5 record. The Stampede fell behind 2-1 at the end of one but took the lead 4-2 going into the half only to fall behind 6-4 by the end of the third and failed to closet the gap eventually falling 9-7. BEAR RIVER GRADUATE CEO IS OUT

It is very difficult to obtain an NCAA division one scholarship. It is even more difficult to earn a starting position. Former Bear River standout Courtney Ceo did more than that. She not only made the team on scholarship, she was a team leader from the time she stepped onto the University of Oregon's softball field in Eugene. As a Freshman she led her team in many statistical categories as well as made the All-Pacific 10 Freshman team. Ceo's good fortune was halted on April 13 when she tore her ACL. The rest of the story is here.

Oregon coach Mike White told the Eugene Register-Guard the loss of Ceo was "devastating. She is not only a very, very talented player, but she was on the short list for national honors."

Bear River fans are pulling for a speedy recovery.
