FAIRFIELD WINS AREA 1 TITLE - AUBURN POST 84 HOST

The Fairfield Expos used solid pitching, good defense and great hitting to defeat Red Bluff in the Area 1 American Legion championship game in Auburn at Jame's Field on Sunday afternoon.

The game called at the end of the top of the seventh inning in the scheduled nine inning contest, with the score 15-3 due to the mercy rule.

The Expos will take to the field in the State tournament which will be held in Yountville.

Fairfield had 15 runs on 18 hit and committed one error while holding Red Bluff to six hit, two of which were home runs, including a towering shot to left field. Red Bluff's catcher drove a high fast ball that must have flown 400 feet. It cleared the flag pole by 30 feet. They also committed two errors in the loss.

It was 103 degrees at game time in Auburn.

LEAGUE DUAL MEETS END WITH A BRUIN SWEEP!

I received the email below from a Bear River Track and Field enthusiast....

 Congratulations to the Bear River Track and Field Team for pulling out victories in the Varsity Boys and Girls division at the Colfax dual meet yesterday.  The boys won 67-56 and the girls won 96-37.  Special recognition goes out to the 4 x 100m relay team of DeVaughn Lofton, Brad Botsford, Caleb Johnson, and Austin Dowling who set yet another school record with a time of 45 seconds.  Congrats to Jacob Robinson who won the pole vault by clearing 12 feet 6 inches and jumped himself into 2nd place within the Pioneer Valley League.  Thanks to Savannah Wells for her overall performance; 1st in the 100m and 300m hurdles and 2nd in the triple jump, which accounted for 13 points in helping the girls post a victory.  Next up is the Kays/Ostrom Nevada Union Invitational on Friday, May 4th.  This is a huge meet with 28 teams from across the northern section competing one last time before league finals start.  Go Bruins!  (Kevin Vasquez) 

BEAR RIVER A's OVER BR GIANTS

The Bear River Giants jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second frame. Clay Corripo started on the mound for the Giants while Trevor Hennig started for the A's. Peyton McGovern, first baseman for the A's hit a two out two RBI double in the 6th to take the lead at 4-3. Jacob Anderson pitched the last two innings for the A's giving up only one Giant hit earning the win. Corripo was thrown out at third with Logan Jenkins at the plate to finish the game with the final score of 4-3. A's over the Giants.

The Giants will host the Sierra Foothill Angels on Friday night at 7 while the A's will travel to Colfax where they will play the Sierra Foothill Giants at 6 p.m.

BEAR RIVER SWIM TEAMS EARN PVL TITLE

The Bruin's boys and girls swim teams stand on the top step of the podium in the Pioneer Valley League as it's champion. The meet victory last week which was hosted at Bear River, qualify both teams to compete at sections, which will be held in Lodi on May 11 and 12. It was reported there was a school record that fell by one of the Bruin relay teams (I'm looking into the specifics). Bear River's standout swimmer Garrat Johnson will be attending Santa Clara University in the fall where he will be in the pool with it's water polo team. Fellow Bruin, Travis Marks has been accepted to Norwich Unv. in Vermont and he will continue to swim as well as Navy ROTC.

BASS FISHING AND THE MOON

6.5 pound large mouth bass

When the local lakes' water temperature hits 60 degrees something magical happens. Male Large mouth as well as Spotted bass move into shallow water to spawn. Male fish (three to five pound weight class) will fan an area with their tails removing the loose debris . They are creating a bed for the often larger females ( five plus pounds) to lay her eggs. While the male is fanning the female will be staged in a little deeper water hiding within some type of structure until the time is right. What triggers the spawning female that the time is right? Through my 40 plus years of bass fishing, I can share with you with confidence it is the full moon. The first weekend in May (5th, 6th and 7th) will be peak spawning season as this is the first time in 2012 where the water temperature is 60 degrees under a full moon. You will want to work the shoreline with plugs, spinners or plastic worms. I prefer to walk along the banks than to fish from a boat.

 When you see a bed (small circular indentation) there will be fish near by. The spawning bass are not actively feed, but they will strike anything that is endangering it's offspring. Cast past the bed and bring it back towards towards you let in sink into the center of the bed and leave it there. The bass will pick it up in their mouth and try to spit it out away from the bed. This is when you set the hook. Make sure your drag is set fairly lose as the bass is going to make a fast aggressive run in an attempt to free itself.  If you are lucky enough to land a large female who is on her bed please do not keep it. Your trophy of a lifetime is the life's blood to future generations of fish and fisherman.

Bear River Little League 4/23/2012

The Bear River Angles were led by Ryan Solomon and Scott Sandstedt who combined threw a no hitter in a 6-1 victory over The Bear River Giants. The Angles broke the game open with a two RBI single to right field by outfielder Mason Giordano in the top of the fifth inning to break the 1-1 tie. Clay Corripo pitched a very solid game for the Giants but took the loss.

The Bear River Dodgers dropped the Penn Valley Padres in a shortened game with a score of 16-3.

In Minors action The Bear River Yankees defeated the Sierra Foothill A's 5-1. Brekyn Vasquez picked up the win.

Also in minors, The Bear River Royals fell for the first time this spring to SF Brewers 8-7.

For my first post, I would like to express how wonderful Nevada County and it's residents are. They are always willing to go the extra mile for their fellow peeps regardless of where they came from, or where they intend to go. I'm a relative newbie compared to many of my neighbors, but my wife, two school aged children and I have been welcomed with open arms and treated like we have been here all of our lives.

My business life in Nevada County, revolves around working as a real estate agent for ERA Cornerstone at the corner of Alta Sierra Dr. and HWY 49. I was a realtor for some time prior to moving to Alta Sierra. While the current market is getting better by the day, there are still numerous opportunities to be taken advantage of. It is still a buyers market. If you have a few investment dollars and a desire to purchase property as an investment or to call home, I would be honored to help you make the right purchase.

I was recently appointed to sit on the Pleasant Ridge School District's School Board. Even though I have been involved at all three of the district's schools, I have much to learn. The board is comprised of five very diverse people who bring very different perspectives to the table. I appreciate the time, thought and care that each one of them provide to me as well as the broad based community. It is a tough tough job that I do not take lightly.
