PVL BASEBALL PLACER AND COLFAX POST SEASON

Placer

California bound Ryan Mason of Placer High School pitched all five innings of their first round Sac-Joaquin Division III game on Thursday good for a 12-1 victory over River Valley. Mason stuck out nine and gave up a home run which resulted in River Valley's only score of the contest.

Kevin Giles went 3 for 3 with 4 RBIs for the Hillman, Mason 2 for 3, AJ Sanchez 3 for 3 with 5 RBIs, and Eddie Vanderoos went 1 for 2 in the win.

The Hillman take on Rodriguez of Fairfield today at 3 p.m. at McAuliffe Memorial Ballparks Field #1 in Sacramento. Click here for a map to the game's location.

Colfax

The Colfax High School baseball team held the top seeded Honkers of Yuba City scoreless for two innings before giving up two in the third, one in the fourth as well as one in the sixth for a 4-0 final. The Falcons had five hits while Yuba City had nine in the loss.

LEAGUE DUAL MEETS END WITH A BRUIN SWEEP!



received the email below from a Bear River Track and Field enthusiast....

 Congratulations to the Bear River Track and Field Team for pulling out victories in the Varsity Boys and Girls division at the Colfax dual meet yesterday.  The boys won 67-56 and the girls won 96-37.  Special recognition goes out to the 4 x 100m relay team of DeVaughn Lofton, Brad Botsford, Caleb Johnson, and Austin Dowling who set yet another school record with a time of 45 seconds.  Congrats to Jacob Robinson who won the pole vault by clearing 12 feet 6 inches and jumped himself into 2nd place within the Pioneer Valley League.  Thanks to Savannah Wells for her overall performance; 1st in the 100m and 300m hurdles and 2nd in the triple jump, which accounted for 13 points in helping the girls post a victory.  Next up is the Kays/Ostrom Nevada Union Invitational on Friday, May 4th.  This is a huge meet with 28 teams from across the northern section competing one last time before league finals start.  Go Bruins!  (Kevin Vasquez) 

BRUINS BASEBALL PLAYS SPOILER AT COLFAX

The Bear River Bruins traveled to Colfax for a rivalry varsity high school baseball game on Thursday afternoon. Even though the the visiting team is out of the playoff picture, nothing would make their faithful happier than to keep the Falcons behind the fence during the post season as well. Jake Jarman leads the the Bruins in hitting with an overall batting average of .459, 17 hits and an on base percentage of .583. Senior short stop Trevor Mcghee leads the team in extra base hits with five and senior first baseman James Harris leads the team with three home runs, followed by Jarman with two. Senior outfielder Josh Toft is hitting .312 and leads the Bruins with 13 runs scored as well as in stolen bases with 10, while being caught only once.

The Bruins (10-12 overall, 5-8 league) will host Truckee High School (23-5) today at 3:30 and then will look to continue to play Pioneer Valley League spoiler on May 8 and 10 when they travel to Center High School. The Cougars could possibly slide into the second and final P.V.L. playoff spot if they were to win their remaining two league games against the Bruins.
