BEAR RIVER UNION MINE FOOTBALL PREVIEW

Bear River High School's football team will take on the Union Mine on Friday night for their first game of the 2012-13 season.

I hear the Bruins looked strong in their scrimmage with Mesa Verde this past week while Union Mine got handed their lunch falling to El Camino by a score of 49-0. Union Mine turned the ball over four times, three of which were interceptions and one was a fumble. They also ran the ball 43 times and only threw the ball seven. They relied on a ground attach with seven different rushers including their leading ball carrier Scott McIntyre from the quarterback spot. Union Mine failed to reach 200 yards of total offense.

The Bruin's are carrying a roster of 40 players which is more players than in recent years while UM comes to BR with a roster of 33. The buzz out of the Mesa scrimmage was running back Cody Heard  (5'-8", 156 lbs) who was said to be running and hitting very hard. One person who attended the scrimmage stated he plays much like Bear River graduate Cole White. Another player being discussed was senior quarterback Dillon Smith (5'-11", 164 lbs). They liked his decision making skills and the strength of his arm, but also the way he eluded Mesa's tacklers which gave him more time to throw down field.

Bear River's defense which has been solid in most years was said to be ready for the challenge. Reports stated the team is small but it has good speed and will shuffle fresh players into the game often.

Prediction Bear River wins 21-20.
