PLACER FOOTBALL PLAYOFF PREVIEW - ESCALON

The CIF Sac-Joaquin section Division IV football battle on Friday night at Placer High School will match two top flight teams who are well matched.

Head coach Joey Montoya and his Placer High School football team did not drop a game all season where Escalon, this weeks opponent, lost to Ripon (11-0) and Los Banos (10-1) in close contests. Both of Escalon's losses came by way of teams who are still playing toward a Sac-Joaquin section title. The Hillman's only opponent who is still active is the Pioneer valley runner-up the Center High School, who plays at Argonaut on Friday.

Both football teams have played some very good teams throughout the regular season and both handled their CIF first round games with very lopsided scores.

First Round
Placer over Hillmar 59-3
Escalon over Calaveras 44-14

When looking at the statistics it looks as if the Hillman have a slight lead in both scoring as well as points allowed. Placer has scored 439 while giving up 164. Escalon has scored 409 and given up 220. Both teams have powerful offenses along with stout defenses.

This weeks game is being played at Placer therefore giving the Hillman a slight edge. The Cougars running back Nathan Chunn who is 6' 190 takes that edge away. Chunn carried the ball 28 time for 267 of his over 1800 yards and scored 5 of his 31 touchdowns on the season in their round one win over Calaveras.

Chunn runs for a TD

This is a run first team as they have thrown the ball 138 times and have run 525 times all season. I see this as a low scoring smash mouth football game that will most likely be played between the tackles. If the Cougars attempt to play this type of game with the Hillman then it will be a long ride home as Placer is a much bigger team who will surely win the war in the trenches.

I will be calling the came for Touchdown Productions with Paul Brown on Friday night so check back on Saturday morning for a replay of the entire game.

439-164
409-220

  1. You and your opponent have the same conference record will receive one share of the conference during the season, then lost ... if you get second place.
