Bruins move on to race another day by qualifying for the Sac-Joaguin Section Meet. The Bear River Cross Country team raced the Sac-Joaquin Sub-Section Meet at Frogtown at Angles Camp on Saturday.
Alex Coffman started the day off by qualifying as an individual entrant. It was a gusty performance as Coffman has been battling a virus since Thursday. He knew what kind of time he had to run in order to qualify and thankfully he was able to produce. Meanwhile, the Lady Bruins were successful in qualifying both their varsity and junior varsity squads.
Two top 20 performances were turned in by the varsity led by a 7th place finish by Mary Nattrass and a 16th place finish by Sierra Mitchell. Nattrass continues to show why she is one of the best runners in the section. The team was rounded out by Kimmy Pugel, Hallie Pettitt, and Jessica Meylor.
Overall the varsity placed 7th and knows they need to race better in order to make it to the State Meet. On the JV side, the Lady Bruins were led by Jayne Livingston who ran a great race with a 20th place finish overall.
The team placed 4th and other contributing runners were Olivia Kirks, Lauren Beavers, Erica Higley, Taylor Autrey, and Olivia Scinto. The day ended with a personal record performance by Patrick Gillis in the freshman boy's race. He finished 10th overall and moves
on to the Section Meet as well.
The Bruins hope to put their best performances of the season on the course next Saturday at Willow Hill at Folsom High School, the site of the 2012 Sac-Joaquin Section Meet. Competition will be tough as athletes from around the section try to make it to the State Meet. The Bruin Harriers are ready for the challenge.
Submitted.
