BEAR RIVER VOLLEYBALL FIRST ROUND NORCAL - CARDINAL NEWMAN

The Bear River Bruins volleyball team had a scare in the first round of the NorCal tournament on Tuesday night as they fell in the first game by a score of 25-20 to Cardinal Newman from Santa Rosa but fought back for a 3-1 victory to move on to the second round.

The Cardinals used a power game to win game one as the Bruins played like they were the team who traveled 3 hours to the Jack McCrory Gymnasium  They played tight in front of their home crowd as they fell behind early and did not recover.

In game two the ball was set the the Bruin's senior Sara Schell who delivered time and time again as Bear River knotted the match at 1-1 with a 25-14 blowout.

Game three was the do or die game for both teams. It was a back and forth contest as neither team led by more than 3 points which went to sudden death with the Bruins winning the game at 30-28. In this game Schell played well as did Teryn Rath but in it was setter Kaya Johnson who was the engine for the Bruins. Johnson fed both Schell and Rath who powered the ball to the ground to take the lead at 2 games to 1.

In the matches' final game the fans could feel the victory as they stomped their feet and cheered for the girls. It was great to see so many people supporting the team as they stood chanting as the Bruins put the game away at 25-20.
