The Miners needed a win at Del Oro tonight to stay in the hunt for the playoffs but it was a tale of two halves and the first one could not be over come falling 45-35.
At halftime Nevada Union trailed 42-15 as the Miners did not have a defensive stop and they gave up huge yardage to the Golden Eagles running back. They had many penalties and failed to score two extra point kicks. Nothing was going their way.
The second half it was the other way around, except the Miners continued to see the yellow flags.
Kyle Cota had a very good second half finding Jake Berger, Austin Marks and Ian Davis in the passing game. The Miners had a difficult time running the ball other than one long play which went for a touchdown by Tanner Vallejo.
The Miners trailed by 10 with a little less than three minutes on the clock when they kicked an on side kick which they recovered. They got the ball to the 20 yard line but they were called for a 15 yard penalty which gave made it 3rd and 26. The costly penalties killed the drive and their hopes for a heroic comeback.
Next up for the Miners is the undefeated Granite Bay Grizzlies who will enter Hooper Stadium on Friday night for NU's senior night without a Sierra Foothill loss.
