BEAR RIVER FOOTBALL - CENTER - PLAYOFFS AT STAKE - PREVIEW

Julie Garten-Stevenson

Tonight at 7:30 on the campus of Bear River High School the Bruins varsity football team hosts Center. The Bruins are coming off a defensive loss to Placer, who is one of the best teams in the area while Center manhandled Colfax.

Both teams enter tonight's contest with the same overall record at 6-1 but Center is 2-0 in the Pioneer Valley League where the Bruins are 1-1. Center has yet to play Placer. Tonight is a playoff game for both team as the PVL is only guaranteed only two post season spots. In years past the PVL has received three bids to play in November but there is no guarantee.

The teams are very different in their style of play. The Bruins like to run the ball but of their 2200 yards on offense, 1074 have come by way of the pass. Center has relied heavily on the two man game of D'Juan Bellaire and Tyrel Anderson who compiled 388 total yards in a 34-14 win over Colfax this past Friday night. Both players are All-league selections in 2011.

Bear River has given up 122 points while Center has allowed 123 points this season, so we know the defenses are solid. On the other side of the ball Bear River has struggled as of late scoring 195 on the season where Center has put up 234.

The Colfax Record quoted the Falcons linebacker Jack Baldoni after their lost this past week.

“Center’s a tough team,” said junior linebacker Jack Baldoni. “We knew coming in that Bellaire and Anderson were good but we had a bad night tonight. “We have a lot of pride though…we’ll bounce back.”

If you can not make it to tonight's game, please check back on Saturday morning for the Touchdown Production replay of the game which Marty Mortensen and myself will be calling.
