BEAR RIVER CROSS COUNTRY HAS STRONG KICK - ALL LEAGUE HONORS

Bear River's All League Runners

Mary Nattrass and Alex Coffman lead the Bruins to a great afternoon of racing at the final Pioneer Valley League Meet at 12 Bridges in Lincoln.

The day started off with the frosh / soph girls where Angeline Oliveri lead the group with an 8th place finish covering the 1.75 mile course in a time of 13:18.  Next up was the frosh / soph boys where Freshman Patrick Gillis lead the Bruins with a 5th place finish in a time of 11:02 for 1.75 miles.

The event of the afternoon was the girls varsity race where Bear River and Placer squared off for the title of League Champion.  Leading the charge was Senior Captain Mary Nattrass who was going for the clean sweep of all three league races.  She did not disappoint as she blew the 5K field away in a time of 20:24 to take home the title of individual Pioneer Valley League Champion.

Strong races were also turned in by Sierra Mitchell (6th place) and Kimmy Pugel (7th place) which earned them All-League honors.

Even with the remaining Lady Bruins all placing in the top 25, Cecilia Malik (11th place), Hallie Pettitt (15th place), Jessica Meylor (23rd place) and Rachel Olsen (24th place), they were narrowly edged by Placer and took home 2nd place overall.

The evening closed with the boys varsity which pitted some of the fastest runners in the Sac-Joaquin section against each other.  Leading the charge for the Bruins was Senior Alex Coffman, who continues to make his case for a berth to the State Meet.  He raced the 5K course in a time of 16:49 for a 4th place finish overall and All-League honors.

Wrapping up league competition, the Bruins now get ready for the Race-To-State.  The next two weeks will feature races at the Sac-Joaquin Sub-Sections Meet at Frogtown in Angels Camp and the Sections Meet at Willow Hill Course at Folsom High School.
