PLACER FOOTBALL WEEK ONE 2012

Placer defeated a solid Central Catholic team in it's opening season game on Friday night in Auburn with a 48-30 win. The Hillman were up 24-0 in the second quarter so that shows they came ready to play but what happened from that point forward should be addressed.

The Auburn Journal reports -  The Raiders (1-1) put together scoring drives of 80, 73 and 70 yards, including touchdown runs of 74 and 40 yards by running back Ray Lomas IV (203 yards, 22 carries).

Followed by this quote from the Placer coach....
"We just have to work on staying focused for 48 minutes," said Placer coach Joey Montoya, who was pleased in general to open the season with a victory. "The momentum was in our favor, but we lost a little bit of focus. You got to give them (Central Catholic) credit, they fought for 48 minutes."

The Hillman (1-0) did win the game but I do agree with coach Montoya about the 48 minutes. Placer has a great running game that surely works in practice against the first team defense, so there must be concern as to how the home team let their opponent run down their throat late in the game to cut the score to 31-23?

If Placer plans to be crowned champion of the PVL in 2012, they will need to keep their intensity from the first play to the last. Coasting to the finish-line will get you past by a lesser team almost every time.

A win is a win!

This coming Friday Placer travels to Oak Ridge where they will take on Foothill of Palo Cedro, CA.
