The Bear River Cross Country Team started the 2012 race season off by competing in the Nevada Twilight Cross Country Classic in Sparks Nevada on Saturday night. The first meet of the season is interesting for the coaches as they get the chance to see how the team is responding to early stages of training. The Bruins did not disappoint. The girls varsity came away with a championship in the small school varsity division and look strong to begin the season. Solid performances by top seven runners Mary Nattrass, Cecilia Malik, Kimmy Pugel, Sierra Mitchell, Hallie Pettitt, Rachel Olsen, and Jessica Meylor helped to bring home the victory. The boys varsity ran a good race as well with strong performances by first time Bruin Harriers Dakota Cornejo and Patrick Gillis. The future looks bright for these two freshman. Next up is the NU Invitational on Saturday.
