AUBURN POST 84 AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL

Post 84 came in to last night's contest versus the Fairfield Expos on a high after winning the District 7 championship last week. Auburn found out is was not going to be a cake walk as  Area 1 is a lot tougher.

Post 84 fell behind 7-2 in the fourth of the nine inning game. Trevor McGhee, a Bear River High School graduate did cut into the lead in the bottom half of the inning with a bases loaded single which scored three . The Expos' pitcher then walked the bases loaded and their manager made a pitching change who stuck the next three batters out, two of which got cut down looking. Post 84 failed to score the remainder of the game falling 12-5.

Fairfield scored 12 runs on 13 hit with two errors, while Auburn had five runs on 9 hits and committed two errors.

Alex Mason of Del Oro started on the hill for Auburn. Who threw well in the early going, but he did get roughed up a bit in the third when the Expos led off with four consecutive singles, a walk and his third baseman did committed a costly two run error which moved the score to 5-0.

Auburn first baseman Viola of Jesuit answered with a two run shot over the center filed fence to bring his team back to within three. But in the top half of the fourth Fairfield scored two of their own. 2 run shot over rt center two runs for auburn 5~2 Fairfield end of 3.

Troy Runte also from Bear River stared the sixth on the bump for Auburn and by the time he got out of the inning the score was 10-5.

While the teams were well matched, the game came down to a few unfortunate errors and the three strikeouts in the fourth.
