Chico Suns Blue were victorious 5-2 over Grass Valley and stay undefeated in the Area 1 junior American Legion baseball tournament Thursday night at Doryland Field.
The Suns were leading 2-1 in the top half of the sixth inning, when Chico's starting pitcher Samson Abernathy plunked Grass Valley's Joey Souza in the wrist with the bases loaded, thus enabling the Miners to tie the game at two.
Carriere disputed the home plate umpire's call that Souza was hit by the pitch until he was ejected from the game.
"I just thought it was a foul ball when he beaned him," he said. "I asked him to ask the (base umpire) and he didn't. It's not a big deal, it happens in baseball."
