The Coach "G" tournament has gone as many would have thought. Bear River (10-0) will take on Placer (10-1) in the final at 5:30 on Saturday at Earl Crabb Gymnasium on the campus of Placer High School.
Bear River dropped Del Campo for the second time in less than two weeks by a score of 46-31. Teryn Rath carried the team on her back at the defensive end of the court while banging with Del Campo's 6-foot-4 inch post player who has been averaging a double-double.
Final score - time was set for between games
With Welz out due to injury and Rath and top scorer Kaitlyn Reina having to shoot over a girl who is 7 inches taller, the Bruins struggled to score in the paint as well. Bear River did hold a 17~15 lead at the half. Del Campo maintained a 2~3 zone while BR played man to man.
With the win the Bruins will play for the Championship on Saturday.
Placer on the other hand came out smoking hot in the 8 p.m. semi-final game versus Rio Americano. They used a deep bench of nine girls while administering a 2-2-1 zone press which resulted in many easy looks at the rim and a 19-6 score at the end of the first quarter.
This Placer team can press, shoot the 3 as well as finish at the rim in transition. Look out PVL!
