NEVADA UNION FOOTBALL - CHICO RUNS OUT OF TIME IN COMEBACK


The Nevada Union Miners jumped to an early lead 27-7 on Friday night at Hooper Staduim as they played host to the Chico High School on way to a 38-30 victory.

With 7:22 to play in the first half NU QB found Hank Humphers for a 70 yard TD pass play which moved the score to 27~7 and then at the start of the second half Coda found Berger for a 52 yeag TD for the Miner's last score of the game.

With 11:36 to play in the contest NU had compiled 135 negative yards due to penalties. The Miners second team started the fourth quarter and were later repalced as the visiting Panthers pulled within 16. 

Chico trailed by 16 with 3:16 to play when their rocket arm QB Reid connected on a 65 yard pass play which moved the chains to the 8 yard line, good for first and goal. The Miners attempted to get pressure on Reid when he found an open receiver in the end zone and then converted the two point conversion cutting the Miners lead to 8 with 2:04 to play.

NU's QB fumbled the by on consecutive plays and the Miners lost the ball on the second one. Nevada Union gave up 16 unanswered points and now found themselves with an eight point lead playing defense on the 50 yard line with 37 seconds in the game.

The following play was good for 20 yards and only ran seven seconds off the clock. The Miners were then called for pass interference moving the ball inside the 10 yard line.

With 15 seconds to play Chico had third and goal the pass fell incomplete and in the final play of the game the Panthers threw the ball into the end zone where the ball fell to the ground as the clock ran out.

Game over 38-30 Miners hold on in a great Chico come back. 

The Miners travel to Elk Grove on Friday.
