PLEASANT RIDGE SCHOOL DISTRICT PRINCIPAL ANNOUNCEMENT

New Magnolia School Administrative Team The Pleasant Ridge Union School District is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Administrative Team at Magnolia Intermediate School. Mr. Gene Morgan has been selected to serve as the Principal at Magnolia Intermediate School effective July 1, 2012. Mr. Morgan has extensive experience as both a Vice Principal and Principal at the middle and high school levels in addition to serving as a Curriculum & Instruction Mentor in the Twin Rivers School District. Further, he is experienced in the implementation of Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports (PBIS) which is an element of the Response to Intervention movement and a critical element in designing pathways to academic success for students.  Additionally, Mr. Morgan currently serves on the University of Oregon's College of Education Advisory Council. Magnolia Intermediate School's new Vice Principal for the 2012-13 school year is Mr. Gregg Motarjeme. Mr. Motarjeme is currently employed as a Math teacher by the Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District in Placer County. In addition to his classroom assignment Mr. Motarjeme serves as the Math Department Chair, President of the Dry Creek Teachers Association, and has held leadership roles in the area of curriculum development, Professional Learning Communities, Response to Intervention, and is a Technology Integration Trainer. The District believes that the areas of expertise, strengths, and collective experience of these individuals will provide strong leadership, vision, and direction which will serve Magnolia School well as we move toward implementation of the new Common Core Standards. Both Mr. Morgan and Mr. Motarjeme will be visiting Magnolia Intermediate School on May 24th and 25th in order to begin the process of meeting staff members, students, and members of the community.  The Magnolia Parent's Club has scheduled a Meet and Greet event for May 24th beginning at 8:45 A.M. in the District Conference Room so that parents of incoming 6th grade students can begin getting acquainted with the new Administrative Team.  Additionally, please look for additional opportunities to get acquainted with these gentlemen as the start of the 2012-13 school year draws nearer.

DO YOU NEED A BUS

  The Pleasant Ridge School District is planning to continue providing school bus service for the 2012-13 school year.  However, due to ongoing funding reductions as well as uncertainty about the future of home-to-school transportation for the 2013-14 school year and beyond we must rethink how the service is provided.

Earlier this year families with a child riding the bus were asked to complete a survey. The survey results indicated that 85% of those who responded saw more streamlined routes with centralized stops as a viable option. At this time that is the model upon which we anticipate providing service.

In the Lake of the Pines we will provide a shuttle route service with 2-3 centralized stops. Additionally, we are working with the LOP Board of Directors  and Nevada County Public Works on installing a staffed crossing at Sunset Ridge.

Additionally, due to "adequate space" rules that the CHP monitors very closely we need to look at each bus as having a sixty (60) student capacity. For that reason we will need to have parents register their child(ren) for bus service.

The 2012-13 Transportation Reservation Form will be coming home with your child on Thursday, May 17, 2012. Additionally, the form is posted on the Home Page of the Pleasant Ridge School District's website as well as on the Home Page for each individual school's web page.

Forms must be returned to your child's School Office no later than Friday, May 25, 2012.

A form may be utilized for more than one child as long as all the children on the form attend the same school.

We will use these forms in working with Durham Transportation Services to develop the 2012-13 bus routes. Those routes will be available in early August. 

NEVADA COUNTY SCIENCE OLYMPIAD 2012

Pleasant Ridge School District is hosting it's Second Annual Elementary Science Olympiad May 12 from 9 to 2 p.m. This year nine County schools, which is up from this past year, are entered which will make up 19 competing teams. I will be an Event Captain again this year for "Cool It." I have enclosed the rules and objectives so you can envision what this one event is about.

In 2011 Alta Sierra School won the county's team event while every school which participated had entrants who earned placement medals and a lot of smiles.
