THE GAME TEACHES US ABOUT LIFE

The youth baseball season is just around the corner. We look forward to making new friendships as well as rekindling the ones from seasons past.

 It is clear the Bear River Little League Junior's team is young but was build with high character players and families. Win or lose, the team will keep working hard to improve every pitch, play and swing. The 2014 season will be a year of improvement. In baseball it's not what you do with the first pitch, it's what you do with the last that is the most important.

The 10 young men who will be sporting the 1970's Houston Astros' jersey from the South county are Aaron Sassville the teams lone 14 year old, Branden Sorrenson, Josiah Cregar, Logan Jenkins, Ethan Warner, Elliot Bouchier, Mason Giordano, Trae Nix who are 13 as well as Nate Van Patten and Dean Hopper who are 12.

Age is just a number, it does not provide the details about a person much like a teams win-loss record.

The boys and I have history together, in previous seasons, may it be baseball or basketball, I have coached every one of these boys. What is clear to me is what they have in their hearts and I'm sure the team will be tested on a game by game basis.

THE BURNERS ARE COMING - BURNAL EQUINOX 4 - NEVADA COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS 2014

On March 1st the Nevada County Fairgrounds will host a sanctioned Burning Man event which begins at 3 pm and goes to 3 am. The event's organizers state, this is a gathering of self-expression and creativity inspired by the Burning Man event, complete with art, fire performers, music, art cars, bands, costumes, and fabulous theme camps. This year’s event will be at the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley and provides us with a whole lot of room for our artistic burner expression. Bring yourself, bring your friends and turn some new people on to the generous love that is the Gold Country community!

BEAR RIVER'S CHRIS BEAN CHANGES HIS STRIPES

The Lincoln High School Principal sent out a letter to parents tonight regarding the future of the Fighting Zebras football program. It is listed below.

AUBURN INDOOR BATTING CAGES - STRIKE ZONE ATHLETICS

The Auburn Airport business park is now host to Strike Zone Athletics. What is Strike Zone? It is a 9,000 sq ft indoor baseball facility. The owners have purchased turf from Stanford's football field and once that is rolled out they will bring in three 60 foot and two 50 foot batting cages as well as pitching machines. In addition Strike Zone will have two cages for slow pitch softball.

"All of the cages can be pulled to the side and a coach can work his team on our 50 x 90 foot turf." Matthew Baughman who is one of the owners stated. "We will also have pitching mounds as well as the latest gear."

NEVADA COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL STANDINGS - LARGE

There are clear standouts as the Boys basketball teams have competed against each other once. In the 8th grade division 7-Hills stands atop of the standings. This team is filled with multiple sport athletes who have not been tested as they have blown away their competition including rival Magnolia.

In the 7th grade division it is all Weimar Hills. This team has strong guard play from multiple players, they can drive to the hoop and knock down the three. What makes this team special and nearly unbeatable is their post play. The team's big man is very skilled. He can shoot around the rim with both hands and anytime he steps on the court he is sure to deliver a double-double.

AUBURN REBELS TRAVEL BASEBALL - BEAR RIVER - AUBURN - CHAMPIONS

Eleven 11 year old Foothill boys brought home the hardware on Sunday. The Auburn Rebels defeated Bret's Muckdogs in the championship game by a score of 12-7 at the Field of Dreams in Manteca Ca.

The road to the finals was relatively easy for the Rebels which includes Colby Lunsford, Cole Winter and Anthony Vierra of Bear River Little League and Michael Lavene, Carson Seeman, Anson Aroz and Cameron Bayer of Auburn Little League.

On Saturday in game one the Rebels dropped the Muckdogs 9-1 followed by close win versus the Elk Grove Longhorns 4-2 which earned them the number one seeding going into Sunday.. On Sunday, Auburn throttled the Reno Aces to the tune of 17-4 before winning the championship.
