BROWNING (FOLSOM HIGH) VERSUS WILSON (COLFAX HIGH)

I will not attempt to show Michael Wilson of Colfax as a better passer than Jake Browning of Folsom but I will note that Wilson is having a great year in his own right. Wilson is a senior while Browning is a junior. Look out Sierra Foothill League teams as you will have to play against what I will call the 2013 National Player of the year in his final high school season. 

Below are a series of charts which compare Wilson and Browning head to head.

Yards per game, only in week two did the Colfax senior have more yards than Browning.

Browning has 49 touch downs on the season which is off is 2012 total of 69. Also in 2012 Browning threw for 5,238 yards. That is what Wilson has done in two seasons.

The ever so popular QB rating is also in favor of the Bulldog's signal caller.

Michael Wilson is a very skilled D-4 high school quarterback and very well may play in the college ranks in 2014 but one thing is for sure for Browning he will be playing at Folsom High next season. BEAR RIVER LITTLE LEAGUE FUNDRAISER

Bear River Little League is asking for a little help on Sunday, November 17, 2013 from 1:00pm until 4:00pm
at 10286 Braemar Way, GV 95949. They will be holding a Holiday Open House fundraiser where vendors will be lending support to our local Bear River Little League. A few of the companies who will be in attendance are Mary Kay, Thirty-one Gifts, Tupperware, gold canyon candles, Jamberry, Silpada, Pamper Chef, + more.

Its not too early to do some Christmas shopping while helping the Little League.

BEAR RIVER CROSS COUNTRY - ALL LEAGUE - NEXT UP SUBSECTIONS

The Bear River cross country team's two top ten finishers, Sierra Mitchell (2nd) and Viviana Chavez (5th) earned All-PVL honors.

The cross country team raced in Lincoln this past Wednesday. In the Varsity Girls race, Sierra Mitchell was the first Bruin to cross the finish line in 2nd place with a time of 20:23 for the 3 mile course. She was followed by Viviana Chavez in 5th, Jessica Meylor in 11th, Cecilia Malik in 18th and Olivia Kirks in 34th, Taylor Autrey in 38th, Olivia Scinto in 44th and Amanda Beardsley in 52nd. 

 Lauren Wegner took 8th in the 2 mile Frosh/Soph Girls race. On the boys side, Brandon Murphy placed 14th in the Varsity Boys 3 mile race. Racing Frosh/Soph Boys was Patrick Gillis in 5th and Justin Dooley in 10th. Overall the Varsity Girls were 2nd place in the PVL.
The team will race at Subsections in Angels Camp November 9th. (Mitchell)

ASPOA ELECTION - BOARD CLARIFIES CONFUSION

Dear Alta Sierra Resident,

The ASPOA Board has received many inquiries regarding confusion over the two upcoming elections. We hope to clarify the issue for you.

The official ASPOA election takes place on December 2nd, and ballots for that election will be mailed to members. There are a total of six candidates presented to fill 3 open director positions. There has not been a balloted election for many years; due to increased interest and participation this year, there are more candidates than vacant positions.

Here are the important official election dates for you to remember:

Tomorrow’s (11/2) election sponsored by RecallASPOA, with 11 candidates on the slate, is unsanctioned by ASPOA and any results will not be valid unless a court order is issued in their favor. They are attempting to fill 8 board positions they believe were vacated with their recall efforts, despite the lack of a ruling in their favor by a judge. The hearing to resolve this matter has been postponed until November 21st, though we cannot be certain there will be a decision made until after the official election.

NEVADA UNION BASKETBALL TRYOUTS

Nevada Union High School's boys and girls basketball tryouts begin Monday November 11. 

The Miner's head coach Jeff Dellis will look to improve on last season's 9-18 overall record. This will be no easy task as NU lost their top scorer and re-bounder 6-foot-8 Lukas Vojack (15.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game) who moved out of the area as well as graduating Cody Gardner (10.8 ppg). Dellis will build the 2013-14 team around returning shooting guard Nolan Stefani (5-foot-10) who averaged 8.4 points per game. Anytime you lose your top two players including a post player the following season can be very difficult. The 2012/13 JV team went 12-15 overall with a 1-9 Sierra Foothill League record. 

The boys team will play their first game on Dec. 2 at Eldorado and their first home contest will be Jan. 10 when they tip-off against Woodcreek.

While the boys may continue to struggle this season the girls team looks as if they should continue their winning ways. NU coach John McDaniel led his Lady Miner team to a 21-5 overall record and went 9-1 in the SFL. McDaniel's team did graduate a few very talented players, but they are still very strong. They do return Sydney Porter (13 ppg) who was their leading scorer, 5-foot-11 Sammy DeHart (8 ppg) the team's 3rd leading scorer, Emma Peterson (7.3 ppg) their 4th leading scorer. 

The Lady Miners look as if this will be a reload year. Their first game is scheduled for Nov. 29 at Christian Brothers and their first home game is Dec. 3 versus Vanden.

BEAR RIVER - NEVADA UNION - JUNIOR FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS

As both Nevada Union High School's and Bear River High School's varsity football teams continue to struggle this fall, the future looks bright for the two local schools as three of the Bear River Junior Bruin and two Nevada Union Junior Miner's football teams won their first round playoff games.

Del Campo High School - From I-80: Take the Madison Avenue exit. Go east to Dewey Drive and turn right (south). School is on your right. 

The Bear River Junior PeeWee team who enters game as the 5 seed will play in the 9 a.m. game. They will take on top seeded Capitol Christian.

The Bear River Junior Midget team will play Del Campo in the 1 p.m. game who enter their second round game as the #3 and #2 seeds respectively.

Nevada Union's Midget team will play in the last game of the day (3 pm) where they will take on Del Campo. The Junior Miner's team enters the game as the #2 seed where the Junior Cougars are the #3.

Lincoln High School - From I-80 west; Go East to Highway 65 exit to Lincoln. Once in Lincoln, turn left (west) on 7th Street. At J Street, turn right (north). 

The Junior Miner's Junior PeeWee team kicks off at 10 am for a contest against Lincoln. The Miners earned the #2 seed while the Zebras are the #3 seed.

Nevada County's top seeded team is the Bear River Midgets who only dropped one game this season. The Bruins will take on Placer at 4 pm. The Bruins are the #1 seed while the Hillman are the #4.
