NEVADA UNION FOOTBALL - GRANT SEPTEMBER 2013 - VIDEO

On Friday night, first year Nevada Union head coach Dennis Houlihan and his young Miner squad hosted the Grant Pacers at Hooper Stadium. Last season the Miners throttled Grant at Grant and this year the Pacers returned the favor as they rolled the host team 46-6.

NEVADA UNION HIGH SCHOOL - SPORTZ IMPROV CLUB

Nevada Union High School has an offering for it students who like to make people laugh and the group are begining to meet for the 2013-14 school year. The club is called Comedy Sportz which is an Improv group that meets every Friday in the Black Box Theater on the campus of Nevada Union from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you are an NU student and you like to make people laugh contact the school for additional information.

FIAS BISTRO BIDS FAREWELL - ALTA SIERRA RESTAURANT

I received this statement today from the owner of Fias Bistro in Alta Sierra.

"I would like to thank you all who have supported us here at this location but it is time to tip my hat and bid you all farewell - we will be leaving this location due to us feeling this is not the right fit for us and not getting enough business compared to the rent demands - I will be opening something in downtown GV, will keep you all posted and thank you all again."

"Please come and see us this Friday - Saturday and Sunday for are farewell dinner services - will post the menu tomorrow - GB, Chef A"

GRASS VALLEY TROOP 4 CELEBRATES 90 YEARS - BOY SCOUTS

"We will be having an open house event where we are trying to highlight Troop 4." said Jon Costantino the Scoutmaster of Troop 4 in Grass Valley.

"We will have a knot typing station, barrel boat races (a really popular event), old photos from the decades past, live music, hot dogs, frisbee golf, etc." "We will be displaying our gear as well (camping, hiking, boating, climbing, etc.) We will also be having ceremony to celbrate our 90 years where will be passing out to our scouts a "90 year" patch."

MY HERO - A PLAYER GIVES PROPS TO COACH

Why do I coach youth sports teams? This is a very simple answer. I coach with hopes of instilling a love of the game so the player may be interested in coaching his children when he gets older.

The photo above was sent to me by a player that I have coached a few seasons. While I did not expect any player to list me as their hero. But it does reinforce that I'm on the right track as his mentor.

If you are a coach of children, it's not if you win or lose the game, it is how you made them feel about the game that is the most important. Thank you for keeping me going with your positive words.

TRUCKEE RIVER TROUT FISHING - SEPTEMBER 2013

Over Labor Day weekend I took my brother to the Truckee River where we hooked many brown and rainbow trout. We fished for about 4 hours and landed 6 total fish. The rainbow in the photo was the largest landed.

The air in Truckee was better than we had expected but the smoke was still hovering. It seemed as if when the sun was shining directly on the water something with a flash was effective. When the sun was off the water a light brown worked.

The time we spent fishing together was great as it was filled with good conversation, fond memories and big brother catching the largest fish.

BEAR RIVER HIGH SCHOOL - POWDER PUFF DATE SET

Bear River High School has put a call out to all of its juniors and senior Ladies as it will be holding its annual Powder Puff football game on September 18th with the kick off scheduled for 7 p.m.

Permission slips are required to be turned into Patty Eilers by Friday, September 6th.  

Team shirts for players and coaches are $12.00 and you MUST pre-pay Adina in the student store by this Thursday, September 5^th!

In last years battle of the classes it was the Juniors over the Seniors by a score of 6-0. Click here for photos and story from that game.
