NORTH YUBA FLY FISHING JUNE 2013

As many of us know the Sierras received very little snow this winter. On Thursday I was reminded of this fact when I stood in the North Yuba. The water was warm as well as very low. My fishing partner and I did catch a few fish in the riffles but there is so little water that a larger fish has very little opportunity to hide.

By the time we get to August the Yuba's population of native trout are going to be very difficult to find and when you do they are going to be very stressed.

Prior to our departure we stopped into Reel Anglers Fly Shop in Grass Valley where we spoke to owner Tom Page. We purchased a few flies as well as a few #3 tip its.

The fishing was good as we both landed fish but they were on the smaller side. My recommendation is to get out on the water soon as the water is only going to get lower and warmer.

Sunscreen is a must. The rocks are slippery and felt bottom boots are very helpful.
