BEAR RIVER LITTLE LEAGUE ONE STANDS TWO FALL



In round two action of the District 11 Little League 9-10 All-Star tournament Bear River's Colton Jenkins hit a double in the bottom of the sixth to score Dean Hopper and Cole Winters to pull ahead to get the 11-10 win over Auburn in Lincoln on Tuesday.

Nathan VanPatten started on the hill for Bear River who pitched well but found himself trailing 5~4 at the end of the first inning. Anthony Vierra delivered a three RBI triple to keep the game close.

Bear River committed four errors in the third and VanPatten found himself in a jam until Hopper fielded a gound ball near second base and turned an unassisted double play with the bases loaded trailing 7-5 to end the inning. In the bottom half of the inning Bear River put together three consecutive singles by Justin Powell, Hopper and Winters to pull within one, Vierra drew a walk to load the bases but the next two Bear River batters struck out.

Brekyn Vasquez who earned the win, started the third inning at pitcher trailing by a score of 7-6 and he finished the inning down 9-6 giving up a walk with two errors.

Bear River answered with a Vierra walk , Powell walk and Hopper doubled driving home Vierra, moving the score to 9~7. Auburn's starting pitcher Owen was relieved at 75 pitches by Jacob Toll who struck out the first batter he faced. An error scored Powell and Hopper scored on a wild pitch to knot the score at nine all.

Neither team scored in the fourth and BR held Auburn scoreless in the top of the fifth. VanPatten delivered a double in the bottom half but was cut down at the plate to end the inning with Hopper at the plate with the score tied at 9-9.

Bear River fell behind when they gave up a an error, single and Vasquez loaded the bases with a walk and Auburn scored on a fielders choice.

Hopper who went three for three with four runs scored led off with a single, Winters was hit by pitch and Vierra walked to load the bases in the bottom half of the sixth with no outs. Auburn's manager brought in a new pitcher who threw an inside fastball to Jenkins who drove it down the left field line scoring Hopper and Winters for the 11-10 win.

The Bear River 9-10 All-Star team is scheduled to play the loser of Tri-City versus Lincoln on Thursday at 5 p.m. in Lincoln.

Major

Bear River's Major team fell 15-1 in it's second and final game of the summer on Tuesday to Auburn in Rocklin on Tuesday night.

Junior

Bear River's Junior team lost to Tri-City in Rocklin on Tuesday night in it's second round game 8-1.

The season has ended for two Bear River Little League teams while two are still alive and will be back on the diamond on Thursday.
