BEAR RIVER LITTLE LEAGUE 5/14/12


Majors

The Sierra Foothill Giants (7-6) traveled to Bear River on Monday night were they took on the Angels (11-1) The Angels held on for a 12-5 final in inter-league play. The game started with the visitors getting two base runners on before the Angels starter David Fenton shut the surging Giants down in the top half of the first.
The Angels lead off hitter Jordan Elliott walked as did Jake Leonard to start the bottom half of the first. Scott Sandstedt hit a fastball to the cernter fild fence which was good for a two RBI single, Fenton also singled followed by an RBI single by catcher Owen DalBon with one out. Dean Hopper walked to load bases. The  Sierra Foothill pitcher struck out three batters in the inning but he was down 3-0 by the time he got his team out of the first.


Fenton was back on the mound in the second and he had very little difficulty with the back half of the Giants batting order.

Dillon Sinclair drew a walk to start the second for BR, Anthony Crawford laid down a bunt for a single, Porter Elliott moved the runners over. Leonard walked to load the bases and Ryan Solomon delivered a three RBI double with two outs. Solomon scored on a wild pitch to move the score to 7~0 at the end of two.

Hopper single to lead off the bottom of the third but was thrown out stealing second. 

In the top of the fourth the Giants led off with a walk and a single, and with runners at second and and third with no outs Sierra Foothill got on the board with an RBI single. The Giants fifth batter in the batting order hit a two RBI triple with no outs. Angels manager Sean Solomon relieves Leonard with Solomon who proceeded to strikeout the next two batters. Sierra Foothill delivered an RBI single to move the score to 7~4. 

The Angels went three up and three down in the bottom of the fourth and it felt as if the game's momentum had changed. The hard throwing right handed Solomon struck out the first two batters, there was an error by the Angels short stop and the next batter walked. Sandstedt took over on the mound and he fanned the next batter for the final out in the top of five.

Porter Elliott led off with a single and advanced to third on two consecutive wild pitches. Solomon hit him home with an RBI single, Sandstedt was hit by a pitch and Fenton delivered a two RBI single. DalBon and Hopper both followed up with RBI singles and Mason Giordano also hit a single to move the score to 12-4 to end the fifth.

The Giants scored the game's final run on a double to right field in the top of the sixth and made it home on two consecutive throwing errors. Sandstedt struck out the final two batters to close out the game.

The Bear River A's defeated the SF Giants on May 3rd in a 1-0 contest. On Wednesday The BR Athletics will play the BR Angels at 7.

Minors

The Bear River Yankees came into Monday night's game, winning seven consecutive contests while their opponent the BR Royals were looking to rebound from Saturdays 16-12 defeat to the BR Giants. The Yankees rode the arm of Justin Powell who pitched a complete game throwing 75 pitches in the 3-2 win.
With the win, the Yankees got their revenge as the Royals delivered the teams only loss of the season on April 17 by a score of 5-2. 
The Royals jumped to a 2-0  lead in the bottom of the first off of Powell. Austin Breyer started for the Royals going four inning where he also gave up two runs. Branden Sorenson took over for the Royals where he gave up a two out double to Colton Jenkins in the top of the sixth. Jenkins was batted in by Weston Prosser on a drive down the right field line. Powell finished strong striking out two in the sixth and the game ended on a ground out to second.
