BEAR RIVER HIGH SCHOOL 2013 FOOTBALL OUTLOOK AND SCHEDULE

Bear River High School's 2013 football team has its work cut out for them as they have a tougher schedule than the 2012 team did and they also have very few key returning players from that 8-3 playoff team. The one saving grace could be, 5 of their first 6 games are at home so they could start strong like in 2012 but they do face 3 of their 5 league games on the road including their last 3. So the team's record could slide as the weather gets colder or it could give the young team the time they need to learn how to play at the higher level.

WILD PLUM CAMPGROUND - SIERRA CITY

If you are looking for an out of the way campground within the Yuba watershed then Wild Plum should be considered. Many campgrounds along highway 49 are just that, along highway 49 which will not give you much peace or quite. There is a lot of traffic noise but not at this campground. Wild Plum is located 4 miles off the highway.

The sites are fairly close to each other and the bathrooms do not have running water. This is the negative.

The Pacific Crest Trail goes right by camp and there is a 3.5 mile loop which travels the banks of Haypress Creek. The fishing for trout is ok and an ant pattern is often effective.

The campground is located just out of Sierra City so if you happen to forget something you don't have far to travel. There are public restroom which have flush toilets if needed.

LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES - CHULA VISTA - LUKE RAMIREZ REMEMBERED

On Saturday afternoon the top two California Little League teams took to the field in hopes of winning the game which would give them the right to play in Williamsport Pennsylvania at the 2013 Little League World Series. The team from Southern California dropped the the Northern California team in a blowout.

While watching the the contest I recalled a team from Chula Vista which won the 2009 Little League World Series which was led by Luke Ramirez. If you didn't see him play he was a men among boys. At 12 years old he was 6 feet tall and 200 pound. He hit homer after homer and threw the ball 73 miles per hour from 46 feet. The guy was scary.

During the Saturday game I began looking for Ramirez to see how he was doing as a high school ball player. The best video of the now 6-foot-3 inch 225 pound baseball player is below. He will graduate from East Lake High School in the spring of 2014. Click here to see that video.

49ER UNITED SOCCER WINS 16U CHAMPIONSHIP IN KICKOFF

On Sunday afternoon at Bear River High School it was sophomore goal-keeper Jessie Cregar who made a diving save to win the 16u championship at the 15th annual 49er Gold Rush Classic soccer tournament while playing for the the 49er United team.

The tournament was comprised of 130 teams from Northern California ages 8-19. The 49er United u16 girls team was undefeated entering Sunday's contest as was their opponent the Norcal Elite, which is a team from Sacramento. The game ended in a 0-0 tie so it went to goal kicks. 49er United made 3 of their five kicks while the Elite only made 2 of 4. The championship came down to one final kick when 14 yr old Jessie Cregar made the much needed play to lift her team to victory.
