While calling the Center at Bear River football game for Touchdown Production this past Friday night with Marty Mortensen it became evident that the Cougars are a very solid football team as they blew out 36-0 the Bruins and maintained the top spot in the Pioneer Valley league.
The score would say the defense did not do their job, but that is not the case here. The Bruin's offense turned the ball over five times which resulted in the defense having to play a lot more downs than the offense.
The Bruins played very stingy defense for all but the final 30 seconds of the first half as they gave up two quick scores and trailed 14-0 at the intermission.
The Bruins offense has failed to score in the past two games.
The Cougars scored again within the first two minutes in the third quarter and it looked like the host team gave up from that point forward as they trailed 21-0.
D'Juan Bellaire, Center's senior running back and junior quarter back Tyrel Anderson were two very popular names call by Mortensen as they ran at will in the second half.
Bear River started the season going 6-0 and many locals talked as if this was a special team. After falling to Placer by only one touchdown there was still some of the same chatter but less of it. The very one sided loss to the Cougars and falling to 0-2 in the PVL will reduce the conversation and may very well prove to be the turning point in the 2012 season. The Bruins might be looking at missing the postseason unless they can turn things around very very quickly.
The summary of the game is turnovers which halted any positive momentum the team developed, special teams giving up huge chunks of yards which gave the Cougars great field position and a Bruin offense that has been shutout for eight consecutive quarters.
